Arata Creek School serves k-12 students with severe emotional problems.
The mission of the school is to provide both an education and counseling
to these students so that they can one day return to their home schools.
Architecturally, the school provides colorful, playful spaces for the students
to enjoy games and eat their lunches if they earn these privileges. State-of-the-art
security systems are used throughout the school and the building layout
maximizes visibility and immediate access to all areas. Materials were carefully
selected to create calming environments that resist significant abuse. The
natural materials and natural light create a warm comforting environment
for learning.
