The Canby Applied Technology Center (ATC) opened in mid school year 2002.
The facility completion represents the initial phases of the transformation
from an Industrial Arts Program into a program that integrates academic
and technical learning around a rigorous project-based curriculum.
Core curriculum instructors including Science and English have been relocated to a new facility. Business, university and community college partnerships have been formed and connected to high school programs and facility use. Teachers are developing interdisciplinary team structures of instruction and are in the initial phases of implementation.
The physical environment provides a strong physical framework for the educational
program. The industrial feel with exposed infrastructure provides a durable
adaptable learning environment. Connectivity is supported through the location
of program space and transparency between all areas of the building. Areas
for large, medium and small group work as well as nourishment are spread
throughout. The building as a learning tool is evident with the mechanical,
electrical and structural systems being exposed and labeled. Flexibility
is supported through the creation of variable space size, durable materials,
moveable furniture/equipment and relocate-able building infrastructure.
